Local gay rugby team the Brisbane Hustlers are holding their 2018 Open Day this weekend.
The event will be held on Saturday, January 13 in New Farm Park in Brisbane from 3:00pm.
If you’ve thought about playing Rugby Union but weren’t sure where to begin, the team says the Open Day is the perfect event for you.
The Open Day will be an opportunity for prospective players and supporters alike to meet the team’s current members and get more information on the club’s plans for the year.
The team will hold a sausage sizzle and play a friendly game of touch football in the park on the day.
Hustlers captain Jimbob Cousin said the team were keen for people to get involved in a number of different ways.
“The club’s been on a journey for years. It’s been growing as we get new players. Other players retire and some become part of running it,” he said.
“People can come to support us, people can come and buy raffle tickets when we’re out selling them. They can come down and play, or run water.
“People can get involved in any way, shape or form and you’ll be welcomed. It’s that kind of club.”
Last September, the Hustlers beat southern rivals the Sydney Convicts to win the 2017 Purchas Cup.
The team will travel to Amsterdam in June to compete in the Bingham Cup, the biennial world championship of gay and inclusive rugby.
