Marlon Brando and James Dean

A salacious new book alleges James Dean and Marlon Brando had a gay S&M relationship.

According to the Daily Mail, a friend of James Dean named Stanley Haggert told the book’s authors that the couple (pictured, in a doctored image) had leather-clad, sadomasochistic sex sessions during which Brando was the dominant master and Dean was the submissive slave.

“I got the impression that Jimmy was engaged in a cat-and-mouse affair with Brando, with Brando being the cat, of course,” Stanley Haggert is quoted as saying.

“Brando seemed to be toying with Jimmy for his own amusement. I think Brando was sadistically using Jimmy, who followed him around like a lovesick puppy with his tongue wagging.”

The book, titled “James Dean: Tomorrow Never Comes” and due to be released on April 24 in recognition of the 60th anniversary of Dean’s death, is based on conversations with sources and veteran gossip journalists who knew the actor before his death in 1955, according to authors Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince.

The two authors cite friends who claimed that Brando played twisted mind games with Dean, including making him watch him have sex with strangers who he had just met and leaving him loitering outside Brando’s apartment in a desperate hope he would be invited in for sex. Dean would ask Brando to burn him with cigarettes, the authors allege.

Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince have published a number of biographies filled with scandalous and unverifiable gossip about deceased celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier, Humphrey Bogart, Steve McQueen, Katharine Hepburn, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

But before his death in 2004, Marlon Brando said he enjoyed rumours about his sexuality.

“Like a large number of men, I, too, have had homosexual experiences and I am not ashamed. I have never paid much attention to what people think about me,” he told his biographer in 1976.

“But if there is someone who is convinced that Jack Nicholson and I are lovers, may they continue to do so. I find it amusing.”
