Shane Warne: An LGBTQIA+ Ally
Ahead of the 2022 Mardi Gras parade, the organisation took the time to remember Shane Warne.
In a moving post, the organisation addressed Warne’s commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Before we takeover the SCG today, we must acknowledge the tragic news from early this morning that Australian cricket legend Shane Warne has passed away.” The post stated.
“Shane was an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community and a proud ally,” they said.
The Mardi Gras post went on to talk about Warne’s efforts in recent years to support the community.
“Back in 2017, Shane publicly advocated for Marriage Equality saying “100% YES.”

They also celebrated his work in supporting a change of gendered terms in cricket.
“He also backed gender-neutral language in cricket believing in reinforcing cricket’s status as an inclusive game for all.”
Referencing just last year when Warne supported the change of terms like “Batsman” to become “Batter.”
“I’m all for it,” Warne said at the time.
“Team Mardi Gras sends our love and thoughts to Shane’s family, friends and fans at this time.”
