Both Mardi Gras and Kylie Minogue’s tour promoter Frontier Touring have addressed the tension that Sydney will be feeling during the gayest weekend of 2025 next March.
Last Friday, Kylie Minogue finally announced that her highly anticipated Tension tour is kicking off in Australia in February.
But her two Sydney concerts – on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2 – clash with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, Party and Laneway events that weekend.
Frontier Touring confirmed in a statement that Kylie’s concert dates were “locked in some months ago” and claimed the dual concerts took this clash into account.
“An incredibly high volume of concerts through this time period and Kylie’s international availability meant the only option was to proceed on these dates in Sydney,” Frontier Touring said.
“Conscious that fans would want to attend both Mardi Gras Parade and Kylie’s concert, the decision was made to add two dates upfront to allow Kylie’s fans the best of both worlds.”

Meanwhile, Mardi Gras has said, “Kylie and the Parade in one weekend? It doesn’t get bigger than this!
“Between the Parade, Kylie’s concert, and the other Mardi Gras events that weekend, it’s packed with everything you could want.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint… and we’ve got a whole calendar of Mardi Gras magic coming very soon.”

‘The Sunday concert will be super gay’
On social media, one person asked the big question, “What are the odds that @kylieminogue will end up performing at @sydneymardigras after party at 1am again?”
Another wrote, “It’s not called the Tension Tour for nothing. Living up to its name from day one.”
“I think the strategy is to (1) go to Mardi Gras on the Saturday; then (2) go to Kylie on the Sunday – I suspect the Sunday concert will be super gay,” someone else reckons.
“Hope the Sydney transport system is ready!” another said.
Tickets for Kylie Minogue’s Tension tour go on sale to the public on October 2. It’s also been confirmed more Australian tour dates are yet to be announced.
Kylie Minogue talks new album Tension II
Kylie appeared on The Project on Sunday night to discuss the tour, as well as her upcoming new album Tension II and another mystery project (*cough* Netflix documentary *cough*).
The singer seemed to confirm the speculation that Tension II started as a reissue but grew into a new album.
The back half of the new album incorporates the collaborations she’s been dropping this year, including with Sia, Orville Peck, Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo.
“We just had plenty of music that we really liked,” Kylie said.
“It was quite hard to cut them out. So it started to feel like this is more of a body of work. So let’s make it a sequel to Tension, imaginatively titled Tension II.”
Kylie added, “I’ve been looking back through my archive for another project.
“I came across something the other day, which was at Cream Nightclub in Liverpool in 1994, it must have been. I was out there doing this 12-minute version of Confide in Me.
“Could someone have just said, that’s a bit much for her to carry, but oh no, she was out there.
“But there was some of the music in that that was so kind of hypnotic and trance-like. I just thought, wow, I’m bringing some of that back.”
Kylie Minogue’s Tension II is out October 18. Her new single Lights Camera Action is out on Friday (September 27).
