NSW Police have charged a man with two counts of murder after the bodies of Steven Finlay and partner Mitch Watson were found in an inner-Sydney boarding house.

Police found 52-year-old Finlay (pictured) and his 32-year-old partner dead on Saturday night (January 29) in the inner Sydney suburb.

Just before midnight, emergency services attended the unit following a concern for welfare report. Officers then found the two men’s bodies inside.

Neighbours told the Daily Telegraph earlier this week the two “likeable blokes” were a couple.

Finlay had lived in the unit, a long term boarding house, for a few years, a neighbour said.

After inquiries by NSW Police, officers arrested 41-year-old Chris Bouggas on Monday afternoon. Police later charged with the man with two counts of murder.

Police allege the men were known to each other and lived in the same boarding house.

NSW Police say men suffered ‘significant injuries’

NSW Police Detective Superintendent Rodney Hart said on Tuesday police found a “difficult and confronting scene” inside the home.

One of the two men was on the phone to triple-0 while police were en route on Saturday night.

He said both victims had suffered “significant” injuries.

“A post-mortem is scheduled for today and tomorrow and that hopefully will give us more of an idea of what the injuries are and the cause of death,” Det Supt Hart said.

“We do know that both males suffered significant injuries, but that’s all I can say at this stage.

“We don’t believe that a firearm was used in this crime.”

Chris Bouggas was formally refused bail on Tuesday afternoon. A court adjourned the man’s case to March 29.
