Lush launch a bath bomb supporting & standing up for trans rights

Lush Cosmetics has proudly supported trans rights by releasing the Liberation Bath Bomb, with profits from sales donated to TransHub.

It’s good to see a company making a stand.

Especially at a time when others drop out of supporting Pride events and cite DEI policies or backlash as an excuse.

Today, Lush Cosmetics launched the Liberation Bath Bomb.

Which will not only have you smelling sweet, but also help raise funds for ACON’s TransHub.

It is great to see such a public show of allyship with the trans and gender-diverse community.

In their press release, Lush highlighted Queensland’s indefinite pause on puberty blockers for trans and gender diverse people as a reason for their campaign.

“Amidst increasing political and media scrutiny that negatively portrays and discriminates against trans peoples,” the press release said.

“Exemplified locally by the Queensland Government’s decision to immediately pause gender-affirming care for any new patients under 18,

“And with increased hate towards the community, especially online,

“This campaign advocates for a world that tackles transphobia, prioritises gender-affirming care, and provides safety for all.”

‘We have their back’

In late January, Queensland’s LNP Health Minister Tim Nicholls announced the immediate “pause” and review of stage one and two hormone therapies for children and adolescents with gender dysphoria.

This pause meant that no new patients under 18 could receive hormone therapies in Queensland’s public health system.

And left more than 400 young Queenslanders on lengthy waiting lists for treatment.

Transgender advocates and peak healthcare bodies widely criticised the decision as dangerous and ideologically motivated.

Today (Wednesday, 10th September), Lush has launched the limited edition Liberation Bath Bomb online and in stores.

They hope to drive awareness of the urgent challenges facing the trans and gender-diverse community.

The bath bomb sales will also raise funds for the vital work of TransHub, a comprehensive digital platform by ACON.

TransHub provides clear information and resources about gender affirmation and health for trans and gender-diverse people across Australia.

“Trans and gender diverse people have existed in every town, city and country since before recorded history,” said ACON CEO Michael Woodhouse.

“Initiatives like this remind us that trans and gender diverse people are valued members of our community and that we have their back.”

Leave the world lusher than we found it

Modelled after the colours of the trans flag, the bespoke Liberation Bath Bomb fizzes to reveal a swirl of blue, pink, and white.

It is part of Lush’s much larger collective call to rewrite discriminatory narratives and acknowledge that trans rights are fundamental human rights.

“We cannot stand by while harmful misinformation about the trans and gender-diverse community goes unchallenged,” said Lush Cosmetics Advocacy and Activism Executive Jessielee Pearce.

“As a company built on campaigning for the things we care about the most,”

“We believe we have a responsibility to provide a platform for truth, education, and empathy.”

A beauty company with campaigning at its heart, Lush was founded in 1995 on activism that supports human, environmental and animal rights.

Lush’s ultimate goal is to leave the world “Lusher than we found it”.

This commitment has included creating tangible educational resources like the ‘How to be a trans ally’ guide.

First launched in 2018 and updated in 2024, it has sat alongside numerous in-store campaigns and local partnerships.

‘This is a fight to ensure gender-diverse people are free from violence’

“The most authentic voices in this conversation are those with lived experience,” Pearce said.

“Which is why we are honoured to uplift the essential work of TransHub.”

“Their expertise and advocacy are crucial in creating a safer, more inclusive Australia for all.

“This is a fight to ensure gender-diverse people are free from violence, have the right to self-determination of their gender identity.”

“And have equal access to public life, to ultimately end discrimination based on gender identity and expression in Australia,”

Thanks to the support of proud allies like Lush and the funds raised from the $12 Liberation Bath Bomb, TransHub will be able to keep providing vital information people need to live authentically and thrive.

Empowering trans and gender diverse people with knowledge, support, and resources, strengthens health and wellbeing, and saves lives.”

You can support the cause by purchasing a Liberation Bath Bomb online or at Australian Lush stores.
