The Pinnacle Foundation, an Australian educational organisation which provides scholarships to LGBTI students has just achieved its greatest success story yet with one of its recipients being awarded the 2016 Queensland Rhodes Scholarship.
With assistance from the Pinnacle Foundation, Harriet Horsfall recently graduated from QUT’s School of Justice with first class honours. Horsfall also received prizes in five different subjects. Her Rhodes Scholarship will now provide her with the opportunity to Study a Masters of Public Policy at the prestigious Oxford University.
Horesefall, who currently volunteering in Indonesia as a development advisor has a strong passion for women’s and LGBT rights and has previously volunteered in Cambodia, Nepal, and Iran.
‘To be able to take LGBTIQ issues into the Public Policy environment is an incredible honour,’ Horsfall said. ‘I’m thrilled, and humbled to be The Pinnacle Foundation’s first Rhodes scholar. The Pinnacle Foundation was instrumental in my academic success. Small amounts of financial assistance at crucial times, such as providing funds for copy editing my thesis, ensured I continued to meet benchmarks of excellence in my studies.’
The Pinnacle Foundation was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for marginalised or disadvantaged LGBTIQ students, offering them the chance to achieve their full potential. Since that time, The Pinnacle Foundation has awarded more than $284,000 in assistance to students.
