The Pinnacle Foundation, an Australian educational organisation which provides scholarships to LGBTIQ students recently achieved its greatest success story yet. Harriet Horsfall, previously a recipient of a scholarship from the foundation, just won the 2016 Queensland Rhodes Scholarship.

With that assistance, Harriet Horsfall recently graduated from QUT’s School of Justice with first-class honours. Harriett also received prizes in five different subjects. Her Rhodes Scholarship will now provide her with the opportunity to study a Masters of Public Policy at the prestigious Oxford University.

Harriet is currently in Indonesia as a development advisor. Her strong passion for women’s and LGBTIQ rights previously saw her volunteer in Cambodia, Nepal, and Iran.

‘To be able to take LGBTIQ issues into the Public Policy environment is an incredible honour,’ Horsfall said. ‘I’m thrilled and humbled to be The Pinnacle Foundation’s first Rhodes scholar. The Pinnacle Foundation was instrumental in my academic success. Small amounts of financial assistance at crucial times, such as providing funds for copy editing my thesis, ensured I continued to meet benchmarks of excellence in my studies.’

Established in 2009, the Pinnacle Foundation provides scholarships for marginalised or disadvantaged LGBTIQ students.

The Foundation awards multi-year scholarships nationally to students aged between 17 and 26. Those scholarships allow the students to study at public higher education institutions in Australia to achieve educational or vocational qualifications in any profession, trade or the arts. The foundation also awards scholarships that enable students to complete year 12 schooling.

It offers those students the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Since 2019, The Pinnacle Foundation has awarded more than $284,000 in assistance to students.
