Kevin Bacon to star in new queer thriller They/Them

Kevin Bacon They/Them

They/Them is a new horror film, starring Kevin Bacon, that is set to explore the horrors of queer conversion camps.

The film is set to feature a string of other familiar faces in the cast as well.

Streaming service Peacock, owned by NBC/Universal will be releasing the film.

They/them: A movie that celebrates queerness

John Logan is the screenwriter behind the new film and he is very excited for They/Them (pronounced they slash them).

Logan is also a writer behind the horror series Penny Dreadful.

However They/Them is a project that he has been wanting to get off the ground for a long time.

They/Them has been germinating within me my whole life” he said in a statement.

“I’ve loved horror movies as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent ‘the other’ and as gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden.”

Although the premise of a horror film sounds far from inspiring or uplifting he has created characters the he wants to resonate with his audience.

“I wanted to make a movie that celebrates queerness, with characters that I never saw when I was growing up.”

“When people walk away from the movie, I hope they’re going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.”

Kevin Bacon, Anna Chlumsky and more

Both Kevin Bacon and Anna Chlumsky are two of the biggest names to star in the project.

Bacon has appeared in just about every film ever made, whilst Chlumsky is most known for her role in My Girl and more recently Inventing Anna.

Other names appearing in the film are Theo Germaine (The Politician), Quei Tann (How To Get Away With Murder), Austin Crute (Booksmart), Monique Kim (Look That Kill), Anna Lore (Faking It), Cooper Koch (Power: Book II) and Darwin del Fabro (Dangerous Liaisons).

Kevin Bacon will play camp counsellor Owen Whistler while Carrie Preston of True Blood will play his wife Cora.

Meanwhile the queer campers will be set for the fight of their lives.

Whilst expecting the horrors of a conversion camp, none are prepared for the axe murderer that begins to terrorise the camp.

They must bond together to save themselves and make it out alive.

They/Them is due for release on August 5th.
