Australian singer-songwriter, producer, and TikTok sensation Jude York is ready to bring queer anthems and Europop magic to Daylesford’s LGBTQIA+ festival ChillOut.
ChillOut Festival comes to Daylesford this weekend, and this year’s destination, Planet Love, is filled with queer country pride, LGBTQIA+ kindness and amazing musicians.
One headliner is known for crafting a ‘warm hug’ through pop music with songs like his queer anthem, Mr Porcelain, and a whole lot more.
When QNews spoke with Chillout Program Manager and Production Liaison, Jacqui Walter, in the lead-up to the festival’s program launch, there was one headliner she was very excited to announce.
“There’s an amazingly talented young performer I talked to after the APRA Awards, who I’m super excited about performing on the Friday night,” Jacquie said.
“His name is Jude York, he’s taken off on TikTok and writes this incredible euro pop music that will be an exciting surprise.”
“He’s a superb musician, and he writes these beautiful songs about falling in love with boys, and we are so excited to have him join us.”
Jude has sold our shows across Europe and Australia, he won Best New Artist at the Queensland Music Awards and went viral perfoming at the Australian TikTok Awards with his mum.
Honestly, the pair singing ABBA’s Slipping Through My Fingers is gorgeous.
And now he is coming to Daylesford, with a band in tow.
‘I want my Friday night set to feel like a true disco’
Hailing from Toowoomba, Queensland, Jude is a rising star producing a sound that captures a special nostalgia mixed with pop and heart.
A rising star on the international music landscape, he will be performing at ChillOut’s Friday Night Blast Off – Music & Mayhem.
Alongside interstellar acts The Huxleys, Reuben Kaye, Joanne and RuPaul Drag Race star Kita Mean.
“I’ve been planning the set for a while,” Jude told QNews, “I think it’s just gonna be a really, really fun night.”
“I’m kind of taking a maximalist approach with it and doing the things that I don’t always get to do when you’re touring.”
“So I’m having a lot of people in the band on stage with me, a trumpet, a sax, trombone, percussion, it’s just going to be a really big night of live music.
“I want my Friday night set to feel like a true disco.”
You never know what to expect from a regional pride festival, especially one like Chillout, and they are excited to kick off in style on Friday at the ChillOut Big Top Victoria Park.
“It’s a really cool festival and event to be a part of and feel like I belong, knowing that the people in the crowd will feel safe and will also belong too,” Jude said.
“I haven’t really done many shows in Victoria in the last couple of years.”
“I think I’m still learning how many people in the real world actually know me or my music.
“It’s always a surprise when I do these things, and I get excited when so many people know my music.”
“That’s always like a huge thrill, as it’s only in the last year that people in Australia have started to get it.”
Are you ready to blast off with Jude York?
“I grew up in Toowoomba, so I have one or two perceptions of what a regional party might look like,” Jude said, “But I’m curious to see whether it is similar or different to Daylesford.
“I mean, of course, Daylesford and Toowoomba are probably pretty different livewise, and I think the sound I bring is just one more string to the bow of ChillOut.”
Jude is excited to bring you an aural experience that’s the “full buffet of emotions, a smorgasbord, if you will,” he laughed.
“There’ll be just the most electric Europop songs ever, but you’ll also have chances to hug people and feel your emotions a little bit.”
“I like to think of my set as a nice emotional cleanse, where you’ll do and feel all of the things.
“Nostalgia, heartbreak, passion, rage, and then you finish and it’s just what you needed.”
Daylesford comes alive with ChillOut Festival from March 5 to 9.
