Join 1000 Voices and soundtrack Brisbane’s Melt Festival finale

There’s still time to add your voice to Melt Festival’s 1000 Voices, bringing together Pride Choirs and singers for a special music event.

Brisbane’s annual LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural festival Melt has kicked off in a flurry of pride-filled events.

And this year, they are welcoming you to join more than 1000 singers who will unite in support and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community for a special event.

1000 Voices brings together LGBTQIA+ and Pride Choirs from across Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Rounding out the Melt Festival on Sunday, the 9th of November, with a spectacular and powerful performance.

This event will be led by Adam Majsay of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir.

He’s previously created large-scale events for Sydney WorldPride.

“There’s nothing quite like the sound of hundreds of voices rising as one,” he said.

“It lifts the spirit, opens the heart, and reminds us what true family feels like.”

“I’ve had the privilege of leading large-scale choral projects that centre inclusion and visibility, and I’ve seen firsthand how music welcomes people in.

“1000 Voices at Melt Festival will be more than a performance.

“It will be a powerful moment of connection for LGBTQIA+ singers, allies, and anyone who simply loves to sing.”

And you can join the community choirs and solo singers in a moving celebration of identity, solidarity and song.

‘Being part of a mass choir is an unforgettable experience’

You can register now to be one of thousands.

Performance opportunities include a surprise flash mob on Saturday, 8 November, during the River Pride Parade.

Then feel the full force of the choir live at South Bank Piazza on Sunday 9 November at 2 pm.

Whether you’re part of a choir, have sung for a year or only in the shower, now’s your moment.

Registrations are open for all, so why not lend your voice to something unforgettable?

“Being part of a mass choir is an unforgettable experience,” said Brisbane Pride Choir’s musical director Elliott Rentoul.

“One that amplifies not just our songs, but our shared stories and identities.”

“For us, choir has always been about more than the music.

“It’s about visibility, solidarity, and creating a space where every voice is valued and heard.

“There’s something profoundly moving about hearing hundreds of voices coming together in song.

“It’s not just the sound—it’s the feeling of connection, resilience, and joy that fills the space.

“These events remind us why we sing: to build community, to tell our stories, and to celebrate who we are.”

‘Our only requirement is for you to sing loud and proud’

It’s free to participate in 1000 Voices, and everyone is welcome.

This is a non-auditioned event, and you just need access to the internet to take part.

You can register online and then learn the appropriate harmony part for your voice or sing the melody.

“Our only requirement is for you to sing ‘loud and proud’.” the FAQ’s page says.

The songs you will be singing are Chosen Family by Rina Sawayama , Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan, Dancing Queen by ABBA, and We Are Family by Sister Sledge.

All registered participants will receive a link to pre-recorded learning tracks and PDF sheet music for the Massed Choir repertoire.

It’s all pretty simple, yet details in the FAQ page; check it out here.

“Whether you’re part of a choir or stepping into something like this for the first time, there’s a place for you in this sound,” said Adam Majsay.

“And what a sound it will be — joyful, bold, and unapologetically full of pride.”

“I can’t wait to stand together with voices from all over Australia and New Zealand.

“Come be part of it — lift your voice and help us share in something unforgettable.”
