A new crowdfunding campaign has been started to raise money to “help protect” beloved actress Betty White from the grim spectre of 2016.
Demetrios Hrysikos, a Betty White fan from South Carolina, has started a GoFundMe page asking for donations so he can make sure 2016 stays far away from the 94-year-old “Golden Girls” actress.
“If she’s okay with it I will fly to wherever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1, 2017,” he wrote.
But Demetrios wrote that if Betty isn’t keen on the idea, the money raised would go to a good cause.
He said if Betty “doesn’t want a strange Greek standing guard outside her door” he’d donate all the funds to his local non-profit community theatre group, the Spartanburg Little Theater, “to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry the mantle of the legends that have left us this year.”
Demetrios says the campaign started as a joke, but it’s since gone viral online and raised more than $4000 for the Spartanburg Little Theatre.
In the last week, George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Carrie’s mother Debbie Reynolds have joined a tragically long list of celebrities to pass away in 2016.
Why we loved Betty White, legendary star & LGBT icon.
