Australian lingerie label Honey Birdette goes hot hot hot for Halloween 2021 with the So Kinky campaign. Company founder, former Brisbane woman Eloise Monaghan booked famed German photographer Ellen von Unwerth to shoot the latest campaign.
“We weren’t going to do a Halloween shoot at first. But then, over a glass of champagne, we went from a concept involving two girls to a cast of 40 including performers from the Crazy Horse and Lido cabarets.
“We had Parisian drag queens, people in horseheads, a giant rabbit. And it was all organised in a few days. We were blessed to be surrounded by some very tenacious people, and Ellen was absolutely amazing to work with.”
Eloise Monaghan and then-girlfriend Janelle Barboza founded Honey Birdette in Brisbane in 2006. She continues to run the lingerie and sex toy company after selling it to Playboy for $443,000,000 earlier this year.

Eloise Monaghan described the Halloween 2021 campaign as ‘much darker’ than the company’s past efforts.
“Now we’re getting more sinister.
“Honey Birdette has to evolve and not just follow trends, but get in front of them.”
Prevented from shooting in Sydney because of COVID-19 lockdowns, Ellen von Unwerth photographed the campaign in Paris. The photographer previously shot campaigns for Chanel and Dior. She also directed music videos for Beyonce.
Monaghan said, “We love doing those editorial-style photoshoots, so I said to my PA ‘see if you can get Ellen’.”
The photographer, just back in town from New York Fashion Week, met Monaghan in a cafe and four days later, undertook the shoot.
