Holden Sheppard, author of the hit book Invisible Boys has this week dropped a sizzling trailer for his newest book, The Brink.
It’s the second novel for the award winning author and it is already generating a lot of buzz.
Although a trailer for a book is an unusual marketing technique, it’s got our attention.
The Brink: “A raw, powerful novel”
“A road trip, A roadblock, A change of plans, lives changed forever.”
The first trailer for The Brink sizzles as a group of teenagers is revealed heading for a night away on the beach in Western Australia.
Beers, partying, ripped bodies, two men kissing in the firelight and a dead body create a lot of intrigue for this new story by Holden Sheppard.
It’s the first glimpse into the story, which is set for release this August.
The story will focus on a group of school leavers partying on a remote island on the Western Australian coast.
What starts as night to party, will change their lives forever.
The group includes anxiety ridden geek Leonardo, high-achiever Kaiya and footy jock Mason.
While Leonardo fights off his anxiety, Kaiya deals with the pressure of loosing her virginity, Mason grapples with his own secret desires for his best mate Jared.
But when one of the girls is drugged and a dead man is later found on the beach, everything changes and everyone is forced to confront their demons.
Holden Sheppard set for success
Praise is already pouring in for the book.
“The Brink is a raw, powerful novel that pulls no punches in its authentic exploration of masculinity, sexuality, mental health, drug and alcohol use, relationships and sex” reads the description by Text Publishing.
Tobias Madden, author of Anything But Fine praised the new book.
“The Brink is an explosive story about friendship, love, grief, and trauma. Holden Sheppard brings his uniquely gritty voice to a novel that is part coming-of-age, part thriller, and part social commentary.”
It’s no surprise given the success and accolades for his debut novel Invisible Boys.
After receiving a string of awards the book has also received development funding for a television series based on the story.
Sheppard has even appeared on the most recent season of You Can’t Ask That.
The Brink will be released on August 2nd through Text Publishing.
