If you’re a gay person (LGBTI) who has ever been bashed because of your sexuality, SBS would like to hear from you.
Later this year, SBS will screen the four-part drama series “Deep Water”, which is loosely based on the string of bashings and murders of gay men in Sydney in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Orange is the New Black star Yael Stone, Noah Taylor, Simon Burke and Danielle Cormack have been cast in the series, set to screen in October.
In conjunction with that dramatisation, SBS will also screen a documentary about the crimes, many of which remain unsolved.
SBS will also be running a series of articles on similar topics on their website, and SBS’s Mark Whittaker would like to hear from gay people who have been bashed because of their sexuality.
In particular, he would like to talk to men who were set upon at beats, or those who have been targeted via dating/hook-up apps like Grindr in more recent times.
Those interested in sharing their stories are encouraged to get in touch with Mark at email@example.com
