Hacks receives 24 Emmy noms in a list chock full of queer representation

The 78th Annual Primetime Emmys have been announced. What LGBTQ+ shows, and celebs, have recieved nominations?

Hacks has come second with 24 nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards, with hit HBO medical drama The Pitt leading with 25 nominations.

It’s a brilliant outcome for the series, which aired its fifth and final season this year. In its first four seasons, the HBO Max comedy earned 64 nominations and won 12 times.

Hacks creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky told The Hollywood Reporter they were overwhelmed by the result.

“It’s obviously our last go round for the Emmys, so it feels like such an incredible way to end,” Downs said. “The fact that so many of [the cast and crew] are being recognised, and for the first time for many of them, just feels incredibly gratifying. Because we could not have made this show without any of them.”

Of course, Jean Smart is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and the show itself is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter are also going head-to-head for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Paul W. Downs is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Who is nominated for the 2026 Emmys?

The number of LGBTQ+ characters on television is dropping in 2026, according to GLAAD’s  Where We Are on TV study, but the list of LGBTQ+ themes in shows and characters running through this year’s Emmy nominations shows that queer joy onscreen is still finding a way to climb.
