Greg Gould & Aja collab on powerful new track BLOODLINES

Singer/songwriter Greg Gould and trans Drag Race star Aja have collaborated on a powerful original single about chosen family, Bloodlines.

Last year, Greg Gould debuted his original album, Strings Attached, sharing personal and powerful music worldwide.

Not afraid to share his experiences and journey through music that matters, the vocal powerhouse and 2013 runner-up on Australia’s Got Talent, couldn’t be more excited about his latest collaboration.

Not only because of its powerful message, but also because he collaborated with another musician.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Aja’s artistry,” Greg told QNews,

“I’m a huge fan of Drag Race, but Aja is so much more than that.”

“She’s multifaceted as an artist, and her rapping skills are incredible.

“What she does goes way beyond what you see on Drag Race.”

Gould reached out to Aja after creating Bloodlines, a very personal song about growing up queer.

It’s not the first to Greg has bared all through song.

Last year, he released music breaking down the stigma surrounding sexual assault, as well as a call to action, No More, sparked by the tragic murders of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.

“I’ve been very open about the obstacles I’ve faced of growing up as a queer person,” Greg said,

“And when I was looking for someone to collaborate on this song, I wanted someone that had their own lived experience of the queer struggle, to amplify the message.

Reaching out to Aja, she loved the themes straight away and wanted to be involved.

“I loved the track from first listen, and I knew I wanted to be part of it,” Aja said.

“It’s an important, powerful message, and I really wanted to echo that in my verse.”

“I hope people love it”

Recording her verse in New York, Greg was obsessed with the verse Aja created.

“It’s the perfect verse to amplify the message of the song,” Gould told us.

“Hearing her verse for the first time was so magical, it’s a real honour to create this song with her.

Bloodlines is a song about chosen family, and was a track Greg started working on after Who Gave You Permission?, his song about being a survivor of sexual assault

“Writing that song was the first time I ever tapped into some of those darker places about my life,” Greg shared.

“And with my heart open and the wound so fresh, I just kept writing.”

“The pivotal message in this song is that family isn’t just about your bloodline.

“That’s not what defines family and love.”

A theme that many in the LGBTQ+ community can relate to, Greg drew on his own lived experience, reaching out to Aja to be involved in the work.

“The verse that she created spoke about how she turned her struggles into triumph.”

“She’s not afraid to say that I’ve fallen, but I’ve gotten back up again,” Greg said

Greg loved Aja’s line in the song ‘When I’m winning, I make sure you see it.’ because of its beauty and power.

“I love that we have been able to bring our different experiences together through song and share this powerful anthem together.”
