Gladstone celebrates PRIDE this Sunday 12 September with Rainbow in the Gardens. The event takes place from 10 am until 3 pm. Rainbow on the Reef will host the celebrations in the glorious Tondoon Botanic Gardens, one of Australia’s top ten regional gardens.

Organisers said the event was possible because of support from Strong Communities and also a community grant from Brisbane Pride.

Rainbow in the Gardens will feature live music, face painting and, of course, some fabulous drag. There’s also a camp cake decorating competition, trivia, circus performers and more.

Organisers have not forgotten that lunchtime falls during the festivities. So, they’re throwing a free sausage sizzle to keep everyone fed.

Storm Delaney from Rainbow on the Reef said the day is 100% focused on PRIDE.

“I am really excited about having a fun day out in the beautiful gardens with my community, family and friends where I can be myself with pride.”

For lovers of live music, Gladstone Australian National Busking Championships winners RedThorn will entertain the crowd and lure the more energetic onto the dance floor.

Community Art Project at Rainbow in the Gardens

The community art project will see everyone invited to use their art skills on a wardrobe door. It’s a celebration of individual journeys as well as pride in identity and diversity.

It’s a chance to burst through that closet door and Paint with PRIDE.

Organisers described the Art Project as an opportunity for the community to celebrate pride alongside families and friends. Everyone can contribute to a bespoke art piece as a continual reminder of their pride in themselves and the community.

Rainbow on the Reef President Heather Richards said the local community was very grateful for the support from their sponsors.

“It’s really important for the local LGBTQIA+ community to be able to hold regional events like these to make connections, feel supported, have fun and show pride.”
