Nearly a decade after his death, George Michael is returning to cinemas with George Michael: The Faith Tour, a spectacular new concert film built from rediscovered and unseen footage of the pop icon’s legendary 1988 tour.
The film arrives in Australian cinemas on November 6, giving us a chance to experience Michael perfoming at the age of 24 on his first solo tour.
The footage was captured across two nights at Paris’ Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy during the European leg of Michael’s 1988 first solo tour.
Shot on 35mm film using 14 cameras, the previously unseen footage has been meticulously restored and remastered for the cinema.
Fresh from the phenomenal success of Faith, Michael was stepping out from his Wham! years and establishing himself as a solo superstar in his own right. The Faith Tour would eventually span more than 100 shows across 16 countries.
Now, 38 years later, audiences get to see and, for the lucky ones, relive that moment all over again.
More than just a concert
There’s plenty of archival magic packed around the performances, too. The film opens with Finding Faith, an original short film by Mary McCartney.
Using newly discovered audio and imagery from Michael’s 1986–1988 Faith era, the short offers a glimpse into the person behind the superstar.

A voiceover provided by an unheard interview with Michael, alongside previously unseen photographs by legendary photographer Herb Ritts and behind-the-scenes footage from the Faith music video.
It’s a glittery little time capsule from one of pop’s most iconic eras.
And there’s an album, too
Alongside the cinema release, George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment will release an 18-track live album featuring previously unreleased recordings from the tour.
The album will include songs from both Michael’s solo catalogue and his Wham! years, showcasing the extraordinary voice that made him a global superstar.
Pre-orders for the album will open soon. Check the George Michael website for updates.
For queer fans who love George Michael, whether you grew up with him or recently discovered his music, The Faith Tour offers a special chance to experience the legend that was, and that iconic Faith era hair.
