Gay Ski Festival ‘Rainbow Mountain’ To Take Over Thredbo

Rainbow Mountain

Australian ski destination Thredbo and LGBTIQ party starters Heaps Gay are hosting Rainbow Mountain, a five-day festival of crazy, fun, glittery LGBTIQ action in the snow.

From August 29 to September 2, the LGBTIQ community will take over the mountain with a huge line up of events, parties, live concerts, cocktails, champagne lunches, and plenty of skiing and snowboarding.

Heaps Gay runs all-inclusive parties and events and collaborate with many LGBT charities and arts organisations, and they’re curating Rainbow Mountain’s entertainment lineup on and off the snow.

Each day the mountain will come alive with ski hosts, DJs and drag to keep you entertained. Expect twists and surprises with snow man building comps, dress-up skiing races, queer life drawing classes, walk-offs and more.

Heaps Gay are bringing a busload of the biggest entertainment and music acts from the LGBTQIA community to Thredbo including drag queens, entertainers, performance artists, hostesses, DJs, bands, and more.

Sydney DJ Amanda Louise, cabaret “sex clown” Betty Grumble, singer-songwriter Brendan Maclean and drag performer Hannah Conda are headlining the festival.

Betty will host Grumble Boogie, an aerobic disco dance class for all skill levels. Brendan Maclean and his ukulele will deliver an hour of musical entertainment fireside in the Lounge Bar.

They’ll be joined by DJ Charlie Villas, DJ Sveta, DJ Dom de Sousa, DJ Estee Louder, HANDSOME, DJ Kate Munroe, NICOLA, Sharon Manhattan, Stelly G, Seymour Butz, Steve Spencer, producers Stereogamus, and drag parody band The Magda Szubanskis.

Karaoke queen Sharon Manhattan is bringing a lip sync party to Thredbo, allowing revellers to choose a song, belt out a tune and have some fun. The Schuss Bar will host Drag Bingo and Trivia night and late night music.

For the singles, there will be LGBTQIA speed dating over dinner at Segreto, Thredbo’s premium restaurant. Queer Screen have curated a night of great LGBTIQ short films to help you relax and unwind.

Thredbo are offering five day or two day event passes that provide access to all of the Rainbow Mountain festivities. Five day event pass holders receive discounted lift pass access for skiing and snowboarding and discounted rental packages.

There are also Rainbow Mountain accommodation options catering to all types of guests, available as a package with the 2 or 5 day Rainbow Mountain event pass. Enjoy Rainbow Mountain in a ski-in, ski-out chalet, live up the lodge life or stay in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel, the Rainbow Mountain event hub, located in the heart of Thredbo Village.
