An openly gay politician hit back at an internet troll who posted a homophobic slur on his Facebook page by calling the troll’s grandma.
Pennsylvanian politician Brian Sims noticed the troll’s post as he scrolled through his Facebook feed. The post also included a racial slur.
Sims said there seemed little of substance in the troll’s post.
“What caught me about it was there wasn’t a reference to something I said or something I’d done or some policy.
“And when I looked at his page there was very little there. But he’d posted a telephone number a number of times.”
So, Sims decided to call the phone number. He ended up on the line with the troll’s grandmother.
He let the poster (named David) know he spoke with his grandmother in a reply to the post.
“I can’t tell if you’re just a really dumb little boy or an angry bigot but I know for sure that you shouldn’t have posted your grandmother’s telephone number on your Facebook page so many times.
“She and I just had a very disappointing chat about you. We’ll talk soon…”
He posted a screenshot of the exchange to his Facebook page, writing: “Dear Bigots, posting your grandmother’s telephone number all over the same page you use to post slurs on other people’s pages is not going to end well for you.”
Sims did actually end up talking to David about the homophobic slur and other issues after his conversation with his grandmother. However, he said that their chat “didn’t resolve anything.”
