Music legend Elton John celebrated a memorable 71st birthday on Sunday.
Sir Elton took to Instagram to show off the cute cards (below) lovingly made by his boys, Elijah Joseph Daniel, 5, and Zachary Jackson Levon, 7, for his special day.
“Woke up to these beautiful birthday cards from my beautiful sons,” Elton said, adding the hashtag “#blessed”.
One of the cards refers to the singer’s Million Dollar Piano concert residency, while the other says: “Love you daddy.”
Elton also shared a picture of a stunning bouquet of roses from his children and husband David Furnish.
“I like flowers… Thank-you David, Zachary and Elijah!!” he said.
Furnish celebrated the occasion in Rome with a lovely tribute.
“Happy Birthday to my amazing husband. Nobody works harder or gives back more than you do,” Furnish captioned a photo of Elton backstage wearing an elaborate get-up.
“You’re a fantastic father too! The boys and I love you with all our hearts, and wish you nothing but the best for the coming year!!”
Elton recently announced his final global tour before he retires to focus on his family.
“We had children, and that changed our lives,” Elton said. “In 2015, David and I sat down with the school schedule, and I thought ‘I don’t want to miss this.’”
He added: “I’ve had an amazing life, I’ve had an amazing career … my life has changed, the priorities in my life have changed, my priorities are my children, my husband and my family.”
Elton also received birthday messages from his celebrity fans, including Slash, Kacey Musgraves, Carole King, Ryan Adams and The Muppets.
The Rocket Man recently stormed off stage during a show in Las Vegas after audience members reached out to touch him during a performance.
Elton was performing hit Saturday Night’s Alright during his residency when some lucky fans were invited up on stage with him – but he lost it when one overzealous fan kept touching his piano.
