Elliot Page has signed on as executive producer of a new Italian documentary focusing on a group of trans friends.
The new documentary is set to premiere next month.
Nicolò Bassetti is the creative Italian director and producer behind the film.
“Never seen another film like it.”
Nel Mio Nome is the name of the film, Elliot Page has signed on as executive producer.
The title translates to Into My Name.
It’s a film that Elliot Page is passionate about, describing it as “a meditation on trans humanity.”
I’ve “never seen another film like it” the actor went on to say.
Nel Mio Nome will follow the story of a group of four close friends from different parts of Italy.
Each of the members of the group are at varying stages of their lives.
The film will follow their journeys as they come together and explore their individual gender identities.
Nicolò Bassetti who directed the film was inspired by the experiences of his own son’s gender transition, who he consulted during filming.
“Knowing that Bassetti consulted closely with his trans son throughout production is so beautiful to me. I think that lived experience and input is clear in the film’s perspective” said Page.
“I’m honoured to be on board and can’t wait for everyone to see it.” says Elliot Page
Nel Mio Nome is a personal project for both Bassetti and Elliot Page, who came out in 2020.
In a statement, Page spoke passionately about the project.
“What stands out to me about Nel Mio Nome is the way it so artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person’s identity,” he gushed.
“It’s a meditation on trans humanity, and I’ve never seen another film like it.”
For Bassetti, it allows for a deeper connection with those whose stories he was telling.
“My personal experience as a parent has allowed me, as a director, to find the necessary self-assurance to approach the protagonists of this story, to delve into their emotions, and establish an intimate relationship built on trust and complicity.”
Nel Mio Nome will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2022.
