Drag Race stars launch new show: Call Me Mother

Canada Drag Race Rupaul Crystal Peppermint OUTtv

Canada is set to host the newest drag show featuring ex Drag Race contestants, Call Me Mother. Fronting the program will be stars of US Drag Race Peppermint and Drag Race UK star Crystal.

Hot on the heels of the various international Drag Race spin offs these drag superstars are starting their own show.

Joining the likes of Manila Luzon, Crystal and Peppermint will host a new program not associated with Rupauls Drag Race.

The recent announcement and previews follow the news that Canada’s Drag Race will have new judges.

Call Me Mother

Although the title might sound familiar this new program isn’t like the Drag Race we all know.

Catching up with show host Dallas Dixon recently Peppermint reveals “People are going to be surprised.”

Crystal, Peppermint and Canadian drag star Babada lead the OUTTV program, hosted by Dixon.

Each queen will take charge of their own house of contestants over the course of eight weeks.

As they compete in a series of challenges for a $50,000 prize the loosing house will see a contestant sent home each week.

However it will be up to the house mother to determine which of her children will be sent packing.

This is not Drag Race. “We’re searching for the first child of drag”

In a recent video catch up to promote the program the three queens and Dixon revealed what viewers can expect from the program.

“We’re searching for the first child of drag” Crystal emphasised.

Making it clear, this is not about Canada’s next drag super star, nor is it a spin off of Drag Race.

Further to this Crystal hammers home the point that this format is different.

“We’re not looking for the person who can spend the most money on drag.”

After queens have recently revealed what it costs them to appear on drag race, this is a welcome change.

It appears there is more heart, more art and more of the queens bringing themselves to this competition.

Putting it simply Crystal describes the idea behind the show is to “nurture the next generation of drag talent.”

Call Me Mother is expected to air on OUTTV in Canada in late 2021.
