Rebecca Pierce OAM is one of Australia’s favourite contemporary artists and will this month be exhibiting her work at the Brisbane Modern Art Gallery.
From 17-28 November Pierce’s solo exhibition ‘Like Baking a Cake’ will be on display, with a meet and greet with the artist on Saturday 21 November 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
“The title ‘Like baking a Cake’ encapsulates many things for me,” Pierce explains. “A cake often has many ingredients, and this exhibition is also made up of numerous parts or series; these series touch on various developments over my 16 years of painting.
“The common thread or the batter in this cake (exhibition) is colour and texture, this for whatever reason is a love of mine that is evident in some shape or form throughout all the past, present and revisited series.”
Rebecca Pierce primarily works with paint, inks and fine points on canvas and paper. Her work initially with a design and decorative orientation harnesses these elements whilst exploring aspects of the natural and urban landscape. The interpretation of the human face and the reading of the landscape, effects of cyclical, emotional and climatic changes to ourselves and others responses to these changes are often drawn upon.
Rebecca Pierce’s solo exhibition Like Baking a Cake will be displayed 17-18 November at the Brisbane Modern Art Gallery, 483 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley.
Rebecca Pierce is an Australian contemporary artist focusing on painting, sculpture, design and licensing.
In 2001, after nearly twenty years involved in the fashion, design and licensing fields, Rebecca started painting and exhibiting on a full-time basis.
