The former owners of a dog named Fezco in North Carolina have been criticised after abandoning their pet at a shelter because they believed he was gay.

Fezco the dog (pictured) is four to five years old and was dropped off at an animal shelter in Stanly County, North Carolina.

Local TV station WCCB Charlotte reported the pooch’s former owners were outraged after he humped another male dog, which is common between canines.

The RSPCA explains mounting and humping are normal behaviours exhibited by dogs, whether it’s other animals, people, or objects.

But Fezco’s owners seem convinced his behaviour was proof he was homosexual, and therefore wasn’t welcome under their roof.

In a Facebook appeal, the animal shelter explained Fezco’s breed isn’t known but he gets along well with both people and other animals. They promised that he is a “good boy”.

They also asked for rescue centres in their local area to foster Fezco before he’s properly adopted.

Fezco the dog’s former owners outrage social media

It’s not known if Fezco has found a forever home yet. But the poor pooch’s plight outraged many on social media.

People were furious with Fezco’s former family for abandoning him, with one person describing them as “hateful”.

A third person said, “Dogs hump anything and everything. I hope a loving family adopt him.”

Another pointed out that Fezco going to the shelter may have saved him from abuse at home.

“Luckily this dog will find an owner who loves him. Good thing came out of this,” they wrote.

Homosexual behaviour have been observed in over 1,500 animal species, including domestic cats and dogs.
