Thor star Chris Hemsworth has backed marriage equality ahead of tonight’s deadline to enrol to vote on the issue.
“Dear open minded, free speaking, laid back, life loving Aussies,” the 34-year-old wrote on his Instagram.
“Marriage is about love and commitment and, in a country based on equal citizenship, it should be available to everyone! Vote now for marriage equality.”
Australians have just hours to go before the cutoff at midnight tonight to enrol or update their details at the Australian Electoral Commission website to ensure they receive a survey form for next month’s postal vote on the issue.
Survey forms will be sent to registered voters from September 12 and must be returned by November 7 to be counted.
“Supporters of marriage equality must make sure they don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate in making history and joining the millions of Australians ready to celebrate fairness and equality,” The Equality Campaign’s Alex Greenwich said.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics, who are running the survey, this week announced paperless options would be available to some groups of Australians including those in remote areas, those in aged care and the vision impaired.
