Carson Kressley has revealed on Celebrity Big Brother the moment of fate that led him to his role as a Drag Race Judge for Rupaul.
The lively judge is currently competing on Celebrity Big Brother in the US.
His candid story was caught on the live feeds of the show this week
From Queer Eye to Drag Race
It seems hard to remember a time when Carson Kressley wasn’t a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Carson joined the Drag Race judging panel all the way back in season seven.
With Season 14 of Drag Race currently airing and six seasons of All-Stars, he’s been with the show for over half its life.
However Carson became a household name back when he fronted the original Queer Eye series.
Since then he has also competed on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in Australia Dancing with the Stars and The New Celebrity Apprentice.
Last week he was announced as part of the cast of Celebrity Big Brother season three in the US, with Todrick Hall.
‘Why aren’t you doing my show?
During his time on Celebrity Big Brother this week, Carson Kressley revealed how he first met RuPaul.
A conversation with fellow competitor Mirai Nagas was caught on the show’s live feeds.
The Olympic figure skater asked how he was first cast on Drag Race.
“This is a great showbiz story” he replied before explaining his first encounter with the star.
Back in 2014, Carson was asked to appear as a guest judge on the reality show Skin Wars, hosted by Rebecca Romijn.
At the time Rupaul was serving on the program as a judge alongside Craig Tracy and Robin Slonina.
It was a gig that Carson had been skeptical of accepting, but it was here that he and Rupaul connected.
“The mantra is to say ‘yes’ to some things, even if people say you shouldn’t do it,” turns out it was a good decision.
“I went, I loved Rebecca because I worked with her on something else,” he remembered.
“I always wanted to meet Ru, so I was just like, ‘I’ll go do this.”
After the chatting on set, Rupaul had one question, “Why aren’t you doing my show?”
Ultimately his response was enough to get Rupaul’s attention.
“I don’t know, did you guys ask? I would love to,” he replied.
“And then he called me on my cell phone and I still have the message and that was eight years ago” he gushed.
The rest, we say, is history.
