During a recent podcast Candace Bushnell, author of Sex and The City reveals Sarah Jessica Parker was not keen on the show.
The author candidly spoke about the program, its star, the reboot and Kim Cattrall.
She went on to mention how she was considered to replace Sarah Jessica Parker.
Sarah Jessica Parker “did not want to do” Sex And The City.
Author of Sex And The City Candace Bushnell recently spoke to the podcast Behind The Velvet Rope with David Yotef.
During a wide-ranging interview with the host, Bushnell spoke about when the show was originally filmed.
In a surprising twist, she revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker was not keen on continuing after shooting the pilot.
“SJP did not want to do it, right? So after she shot the pilot, she did not want to do it” she remembered.
She went on to reveal that there were talks that Bushnell herself should have replaced her as columnist Carrie Bradshaw.
“At one point they were saying that I should have played the part” Bushnell recalls.
After the long-running success of the show, it’s something the author wishes she had done.
“And now I’m like, ‘Yeah, I should’ve played the part!’ But then they convinced her to do it.”
Candace Bushnell on the Sex And The City Reboot.
Candace went on to discuss the Sex and The City reboot, And Just Like That, which Sarah Jessica Parker returned for.
The series was notably filmed without Kim Cattrall playing the much loved Samantha Jones.
After years of a public falling out with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cattrall declined to return and the series proceeded to mixed reviews.
She was also asked about whether the reboot could really be done without Kim Cattrall.
“I mean, it’s a spin-off so I think they can kind of do whatever they want to do. And also, they’re going to do it” she mused.
Bushnell recognised the huge amount of money the company was set to make off the reboot, citing her own financial benefits from the show.
“I mean come on, if HBO did not do a reboot of Sex and the City, you’d be like ‘come on guys.’ You’ve got to be kidding, this is a huge franchise for you.’
“It’s one of their big properties. I know how much money they’ve made off it because I get the statements.”
For Bushnell, it’s clear the reboot or Spin-off as she prefers, was all about the money.
“You know, these are big, big properties for them that they’re going to exploit. That’s just business.”
