Burger King really didn’t think through its new Pride Whopper

Gay Twitter™ has unleashed the memes after Burger King in Austria unveiled the Pride Whopper featuring two burger tops or two burger bottoms for Pride Month.

Last week, the Austrian branch of fast food giant took to Instagram to unveil the Pride Whopper, which is on sale in the country all Pride Month.

It’s the chain’s same signature burger except with “two equal buns,” which means customers get either two top halves or two bottom halves.

In the post, the Burger King declared the Pride Whopper was “for equal love and equal rights.”

“We are setting an example for individuality and freedom and stand for respect for each other,” the caption in German reads.

“Equal rights. Empathy. Understanding. No matter where you come from, no matter who you love, no matter what you look like or what you believe in: Time to be proud.”

Great.

While the Pride Whopper is only in Austria, the campaign has gone global on social media as some acknowledged the nod to same-sex couples but also pointed out the obvious.

One person tweeted, “Burger King Austria made a Pride burger that’s either two tops or two bottoms… what in straight hell?”

Another wrote, “If they spent any time talking to the queer community Burger King would know the last thing they want is pairing a top with a top and a bottom with a bottom.”

But another person hit back, tweeting, “I support this, and I’ll tell you why: It implies being vers is normal and proper.”

“To make it authentic they gotta always give you a bottom burger even when you order a top,” another wrote.

“Where’s the whopper taco for lesbians??” someone else asked.

Another person simply suggested, “They should just rename the company Burger Queen for Pride Month.”
