Queensland’s largest lesbian club night Scarlet is looking for new owners.
Monique Wilson and Simone Medina are Scarlet’s current owners and they’ve been running the parties on the second Saturday of every month from February to November at the Hotel Orient in Brisbane.
But on the club’s 10th anniversary the two of them have decided to put the club up for sale so they can travel, study and become parents.
Monique was one of Scarlet’s original creators and has owned the club for seven and a half of its ten years, an experience she describes as amazing and rewarding.
“I can honestly say I have only love for Scarlet, absolutely no regrets,” she said.
“My heart’s not sure I’m ready to give Scarlet up but my head knows it’s time to pass her over to someone that has the time and energy to deliver better than what I currently have to give.”
Simone first spent a year as part of Scarlet’s crew and for the last two and half years she’s been co-owner alongside Monique. She says they’ve been some of the best years of her life.
“I attended the first Scarlet 10 years ago and have been a patron for many years prior to owning this amazing business. I felt very passionate about the lesbian community and wanted to contribute,” co-owner Simone Medina said.
“Owning Scarlet has been a fantastic experience; creating a fun and inclusive space for women of all ages and styles to express themselves, a space where they felt safe and part of a community.
“Although I’d never be ready to let her go, it’s time to let someone else enjoy the magic of the club.”
They’ve asked anyone interested in Scarlet to contact them at email@example.com for more information about what would be included in the sale. All inquiries will be kept confidential.
But before Monique and Simone bow out, they’re throwing one last Scarlet party to both say goodbye and celebrate the club’s 10th Anniversary.
The party will be uniform-themed on Saturday, June 11 upstairs at the Hotel Orient on the corner of Ann and Queen Streets. Click here for the event’s Facebook page.
