A new series of speed dating events catering to same-sex singles are being held in Brisbane next month.

Venturous Speed Dating founder Valezka Ocando says she started the events to provide an avenue for singles to meet other like-minded people offline.

She said the speed dating experience “allows you to get a feeling of what the person is really about, often more than can be transmitted through an online profile.”

“I started hosting a speed-dating event because I strongly believe that everyone should be able to meet face-to-face for the possibility of intimacy,” she said.

“Modern dating is shifting toward the mindset to remain in our comfort zone, behind the computer or our phones.

“Dating apps are taking away the fun of flirting for the very first time with someone face-to-face, and meeting that potential partner.

“I really wanted to include events for the LGBTIQ community because I noticed that they were non-represented in these types of events.”

Venturous Speed Dating has a range of upcoming events planned, with each “fun, engaging and flirty night” catering to a specific age group and sexual orientation.

On July 11, the Winter Cuddle Buddies speed dating night will welcome men attracted to men aged between 18 and 30 who want to mingle with others.

Then on July 18, the Garden of Roses will welcome women attracted to women aged between 18 and 30 to the venue.

The events will run from 7 to 10pm on the top floor of the Catchment Brewery in West End. Each ticket includes a drink, food to share and a free entry to the prize draw at the end of the evening.
