Gay rugby team the Sydney Convicts have taken home the Purchas Cup shield this weekend.
The Convicts were joined by three other gay and inclusive teams of rugby players – the boys from the Brisbane Hustlers, the Melbourne Chargers and New Zealand Falcons – in Sydney this weekend for the tournament at the Convicts’s home grounds at Woollahra Oval in Rose Bay.
The Purchas Cup is Australia’s annual gay rugby championship and it’s named after the Convicts’ founding captain Andrew Purchas.
Earlier this year, the Chargers beat the Convicts to win the Bingham Cup, the world championship of gay rugby.
