WARNING: Game of Thrones Season 6 spoilers below!

HBO’s hit fantasy TV series Game of Thrones is no stranger to gay romances between men (King Renly Baratheon and gay knight Loras Tyrell were once lovers) but could the show be considering a lesbian romance as well?

In episode 9 of Game of Thrones’ sixth season, the show seemed to hint that a romance between Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen and Yara Greyjoy could be possible.

Yara, who has a claim to the Salt Throne, suggests that the two women form an alliance. Daenerys also refers to a marriage proposal that she recently received from Yara’s uncle, saying, “And I imagine your offer is free of any marriage demands?”

Yara replies with, “I never demand… but I’m up for anything, really.”

In a video reacting to the scene, the actress who plays Yara, Gemma Whelan, says that the two characters “like the cut of each other’s jib.”

Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys, adds that, “There’s a mild flirtation, which is exciting to say the least… get rid of [male love interest] Daario, and bring on the ladies! Why not?”

And fans of the show have also taken to Twitter to voice their support for the two women.

So with the actors and fans seemingly in support of a Yara/Daenerys romance, could the HBO show really make it happen?

Yara has been established as a lesbian, locked lips with another female character in a previous episode of the show.

Daenerys, on the other hand, is depicted as bisexual in the book series that Game of Thrones is based on and has both male and female love interests.
