Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for gay high school drama Heartstopper, coming to streaming next month.

The eight episode series is an adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name.

“Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love,” Netflix explains in a synopsis.

“When gentle Charlie [Locke] and rugby-loving Nick [Connor] meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance.

“Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.”

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the series. Heartstopper arrives on the streaming service on April 22.

Original author has adapted Heartstopper for Netflix

Heartstopper began as a graphic novel. Its original author Alice Oseman has now written the script for the new Netflix adaptation.

“I feel incredibly lucky to get to work with a team of passionate, creative people who all adore Heartstopper and want to make it the most beautiful show we can,” she said last year.

“It’s a joy and an honour to get to re-tell Nick and Charlie’s story for TV.

“I am so excited to share it not only with Heartstopper’s existing readership, but also a whole new audience around the world.”

Oseman also described the two leads as “so talented, sweet, funny, smart and so perfect.”

“It has been such fun getting to know them and welcoming them into the Heartstopper universe. I can’t wait to see them bring the characters to life on screen,” she said.
