Victoria Bridge Lit Up For Orlando

Brisbane’s Story Bridge, Victoria Bridge and City Hall will be lit up in the American flag’s red, white and blue tonight to pay respects to those affected by the Orlando shooting, Brisbane City Council has announced.

A rainbow flag will also fly from Brisbane City Hall to honour the LGBTI community, who are in mourning after a gunman opened fire in gay Florida nightclub Pulse overnight, Australian time.

Elsewhere in Australia, candlelight vigils are being held tonight in Sydney’s Taylor Square, the Sydney suburb of Newtown, Adelaide and Darwin.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore tweeted earlier today that Sydney Town Hall was flying a rainbow flag and Town Hall would be lit up in pink tonight.

South Australian premier Jay Weatherill tweeted that Adelaide Oval would be lit in rainbow colours tonight.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews wrote on Facebook Melbourne Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria will be lit up in rainbow colours tonight.

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr wrote on Facebook that monuments in Canberra “will be lit up tonight in solidarity.”
