Victorian author Jacqui Tomlins is crowdfunding to help her self-publish a children’s book featuring two same-sex parents and their children.
Tomlins has so far raised $5500 on Pozible to fund “The Curse of Grandma Maple,” her book about kids Connor and Sam who venture out into the Canadian wilderness
“I’ve published books with mainstream publishers before, but I wanted to do this one myself,” Tomlins wrote on the Pozible page.
“It’s personal. This is about my family and my community.
“I want kids in rainbow families — like mine — to see a family with two mums.”
The story was not a story about a rainbow family, she explained, but an adventure story “about family and having each other’s back.”
“And, coincidentally, there are two mums hovering at the edges of the story just doing what mums do – worrying, interfering, being annoying – but occasionally coming good by saying ‘Yes!’ when it really matters,” Tomlins said.
Tomlins said the raised money will got towards cover art, illustrations, editing and publishing of the book.
