Deputy Opposition leader Bill Shorten has called Cory Bernardi “a homophobe” during a press conference at Parliament House this morning.
Bill was in the middle of slamming Coalition members’ opposition to the anti-bullying Safe Schools program when the program’s chief critic, Senator Bernardi, passed by.
“We see this ridiculous, absurd obsession by the right wing of the Liberal Party about Safe Schools,” Shorten told reporters.
“That’d be me,” Senator Bernardi interrupted. “At least I’m honest, Bill. You’re a fraud.”
Shorten replied: “No, mate. At least I’m not a homophobe either, mate.”

The Safe Schools Coalition is designed to offer resources and support to help create safe and inclusive environments in schools for same-sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students and staff.
But Cory Bernardi has slammed the Safe Schools Coalition as radical propaganda and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull yesterday announced a review into the $8 million program.
