Apple has announced that a rainbow flag will be among a hundred new and redesigned emojis, the colourful icons that have become a staple in text and internet messages.
Apple said they’re working closely with the developers at the Unicode Consortium to “ensure that the emoji characters reflect the diversity of people everywhere.”
The company said in a statement: “This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds beautiful redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options.”
The new emojis will be available to Apple iPhone and iPad users when Apple releases the latest version of its operating system iOS 10 in the next few months.
Last week Apple announced their support for marriage equality in Australia.
