Anthony Callea opened up on Instagram last night about the ‘excruciating pain’ of COVID. He said of his experience during the last few days, “This shit is real.”

Anthony says he woke up at 6 am Sunday morning in excruciating pain.

“My head felt like it was about to combust, my throat, well I have never felt pain in my throat like that before, it was like someone was stabbing me tonight in the throat. My chest was tight. I felt as though I was about to burst my eardrums and my body overall just felt like it was shutting down.”

The singer said he took a rapid antigen test which returned a positive. Husband, actor Tim Campbell, returned a negative.

“Tim went into COVID control mode. (I don’t actually remember much.) Initially, it was about managing my pain, then isolating me and working out where we could get a PCR test quickly and safely. Didn’t leave the bedroom until about 2 pm… I physically couldn’t move until the ridiculous amount of painkillers kicked in.”

This shit is real

Anthony described the last three days as scary and said he never felt like this before in his life.

“This shit is real.”

He said from his own and his doctor’s observations he appears to have the DELTA variant.

“Thankfully, I’m double vaxxed. Would hate to think what I’d be like if I weren’t.”

The singer thanked his husband, parents and friends for their assistance during his illness and said he hoped to leave isolation Sunday ‘feeling ok and free of the virus’.

“I have so many people in my life that have had COVID or have it now as well.

“It’s shit, it’s real and it’s destroying lives.

“Please try and stay as safe as possible and wherever you can, try and do the right thing by others.

“If only our government would do the right thing by others and its people and manage this shambolic mess!”
