Alexander Skarsgard is no stranger to filming steamy gay sex scenes, and the 39-year old Swedish actor has shared some tips for straight actors who are nervous about filming them.

“You just have to embrace it. You have to think of the scene and how it fits in and hopefully be excited about the scene. Then, just dive in,” Alexander said in an interview with PrideSource.

He famously played bisexual vampire Eric in True Blood, and recalled chatting to co-star Theo Alexander on set, who was nervous because he “had never kissed a guy before.”

“I just said, ‘Look at the scene. It’s this nemesis and he comes in and then it gets seductive and you think they’re gonna make love and it gets into that and then suddenly my character stabs him in the back and he explodes. In two minutes, look at this emotional rollercoaster we’re taking the audience on,’” he explained.

“’If we commit to this, it’s going to be an amazing scene and we’re going to be very happy with it forever. If we hold back, that’s when it gets awkward.’”

Alexander also praised True Blood for bringing queer characters into millions of homes and to “a lot of people who didn’t have anyone close to them in the LGBT community suddenly had someone in their living room every Sunday night that they loved.”

Meanwhile, the actor explained to talk show host Conan O’Brien why he walked the red carpet at the premiere of his 2015 film Diary Of A Teenage Girl in fabulous full drag last August.

“The first assistant director on that movie is Cousin Wonderlette, a legendary drag queen in San Francisco,” he told Conan.

“She was hosting [the premiere] with all her drag queen friends, and there was just something about the excitement about getting ready for the premiere as I was sitting there with my gray suit.

“They were talking about their wigs and their dresses and everything and I felt left out. So I asked Cousin, ‘Can I play? Can I be a part of this?'”

Alexander said the drag queens happily obliged, dressing up the hunk in a gold lame dress as 1970s babe Farrah Fawcett.

The actor’s new movie The Legend Of Tarzan opens in Australian cinemas on July 7.
