A lineup of Brisbane men will compete this weekend for the title of Mr Sportsman Hotel at the gay venue on Saturday, May 8.
The annual men’s pageant is one of the Brisbane bar’s most popular events, which this year is themed “Locker Room Lads”.
Drag star Gayleen Tuckwood is hosting the competition this Saturday night from 10pm.
Gayleen will put all the boys through their paces as the boys show off plenty of skin across three different rounds.
Aside from the glory and bragging rights of the Mr Sporties title, there’s also $2000 worth of prizes up for grabs for the winners.
Mr Sportsman Hotel is the male counterpart of the popular Miss Sportsman Hotel drag pageant.
The current reigning Miss Sporties Justine Deeva will give a special performance on Saturday night.
Last year, the Mr Sportsman Hotel competition was sadly cancelled due to COVID-19. On Saturday night the contest will return for the first time since 2019.
“Miss Sportsman Hotel has been running since the 1980s, and in 2000, Sporties decided to make it fairer and give the boys a go,” then-host Wanda D’Parke explained at the time.
“Since then, the contestants have come in all ages, shapes and sizes. We really to keep the competition as diverse as possible.
“The boys are all so brave. It takes a very brave person to come up onto the stage for any reason.”
Mr Sportsman Hotel 2021 is on this Saturday (May 8) at Sporties at 130 Leichhardt Street in Spring Hill, Brisbane. Entry is free.
