Save Me
By Jonathan Duffy
Chad Allen (of the Donald Stretchy Mysteries) stars in this Bible hearted ex-gay love story. Chad plays Mark, a man on the edge of everything. After a wild, drug induced sexual encounter, Mark winds up in hospital following an overdose. Alone, and rejected by his family, he does what any self respecting lonely and desperate gay would do, he checks into a Christian conversion camp.
Mark is determined to rid himself of the sin that has caused him so much pain, but there just may be a lingering in his heart (or pants) for man love. This film has received some mixed reactions from audiences - this could probably be due to the way the subject of conversion is dealt with.
The film had a completely gay production crew including its two leads (Chad Allen and Robert Gant “Ben from QAF”). The production company was cautious of making a propaganda film and instead opted to portray both sides of the story equally. The result is an overall feeling that you're not sure if you like where the story is headed, but hang in there, I'm sure you'll enjoy the ending.
This film is realistic and moving, without necessarily having the typical scene where all the ex-gays realise who they truly are and through a wild promiscuous party. Some powerful performances and one very steamy (yet intoxicated) sex scene in the beginning make for a truthful and riveting flick.
