Kristy Apps Gets Physical
Over the last 10 years Kristy Apps has carved her own niche into both the Brisbane and the wider national singer / songwriter scene. 2009 kicked off with a bang that saw Kristy playing shows in Sydney and Melbourne whilst simultaneously dividing time between recording her new album, the forthcoming "Pour Me Out" at 301 and Rocking Horse Studios in Byron Bay. ARIA nominated producer Anthony Lycenko worked closely with Kristy on developing new sounds for her music highlighting the depth of her vocal talent and songwriting whilst staying true to her roots.
Kristy is now proud to announce Physical, the first single to be lifted from “Pour Me Out”. “Pour Me Out” will be released nationally Sat August 1st. A rollicking shot of melodic grit and innuendo, in Kristy's words: “I wrote Physical when I was listening to a lot of Le Tigre, meaty electric guitar driven electronica.. this song sounds nothing like Le Tigre but it has the bite and the freedom that their music represents for me. It is totally about that innocent crush that starts off exciting and flirtatious but half way through it becomes consuming of your whole being and all you can think about is being close to this person .. it's so deep you feel it in your bones. The angsty, sexy conflict that becomes very addictive.”
Physical is packaged with a b side also lifted from the album, Kristy's superb cover of Salt n Pepa's 1987 classic Push It:” I played a gig with a bunch of friends and we had to do a set of covers.. somehow Push It came about and I totally connected to playing it this way. It's a really sexy song and to give it this dark folky acoustic vibe is so far removed from the original version but totally works. It has become a favourite when I'm playing live and often takes people a good 30 seconds before they realise what song I'm singing. The piano accordion and sweet guitar riff add such interesting layers to the song. It's one of the worlds best pop songs and in this rendition it's a song about love and lust”.
Kristy's music is distributed digitally worldwide through Sugarrush Records.
