By Lara Hill Grab your spandex, capes and masks, no this isn’t a bondage party, it’s the first ever gay superhero wedding! Marvel comic book heroes X-Men have put crime fighting on hold and picked up wedding rings for the first same-sex marriage in the superhero world, set for this June. Northstar aka Jean-Paul Beaubier, the Canadian with piercing blue eyes, a ripped body and the ability move and fly at superhuman speeds, came out as Marvel's first gay character in 1992. This week he proposed to his long-time boyfriend Kyle Jinadu. "When gay marriage became legal in New York State, it raised obvious questions since most of our heroes reside in New York State," Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso said. "Our comics are always best when they respond to and reflect developments in the real world. We've been doing that for decades, and this is just the latest expression of that." “We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle’s wedding reflects Marvel’s ‘world outside your window’ tradition.” The pair will marry in the next issue of Astonishing X-Men #51 on sale June 20. But Marvel is not promising the pair will live happily ever after. As if battling evildoers and saving the world wasn’t enough to deal with!
