By Suzanne Gaskell HUNGARY –EUROGAMES TO GET GAY AIRLINE Lufthansa has launched a new ‘gay airline’ to transport passengers to Budapest for EuroGames 2012. Flights will operate from 32 countries across Europe from 27 June until 1 July 2012 – the duration of the sporting event. Calling itself FreshAir, the promotional materials claim that the service will "fill the gap left by traditional, boring airlines and satisfy the increasing demand by all sorts of consumers – sporting a rainbow of tastes and sexual orientations.” The company’s slogan, to tie in with the games is “We all play the same, no matter which team we belong to.” COLUMBIA – GAY WIDOWER AWARDED PENSION The Constitutional Court of Columbia has ruled that the gay partner of a deceased Catholic priest will be allowed to claim his companion’s pension. Despite the dead cleric’s vow of chastity the men had lived together as partners for 28 years. In the landmark Latin American case, the court decided that legally a ‘family’ can be comprised of same-sex couples and that judges must observe ‘religious neutrality’. Whilst other similar rulings have been made in Columbia over the past few years, this is the first time a case has involved a priest. To date the Catholic Church has declined to comment on the case. CHINA – GAY POP STAR’S GQ COVER Gay Hong Kong pop star, Anthony Wong, is featured on this month’s Chinese edition of GQ magazine. The singer, who came out after a reunion concert last month, is pictured coming out from behind a door on the cover and has been interviewed in the publication about recent events. With gay cover stars rarely, if ever, gracing the front of men’s magazines, there’s no doubt that GQ is breaking new ground with this issue. It is widely available throughout mainland China and sends a ringing endorsement of the way homosexuality is viewed across the nation and in the media. Bravo!
