A new pilot, produced by singing sensation Jennifer Lopez, has just been given the green light by American network ABC Family. The new family drama will follow a lesbian couple who are juggling work and being mums.

Executive-produced by J-Lo, Bradley Bredeweg and Queer as Folk‘s Peter Paige, The Fosters follows two mommies, a cop and a teacher who are raising adopted twins and a biological son.

“We are thrilled to be producing such an exceptional and timely project with ABC Family,” Producer Simon Fields said.

“The show will entertain and provoke meaningful discussion about the contemporary definition of ‘family.'"

It seems with the runaway success of shows like Modern Family networks are in a tizzy to launch the next breakout hit with a gay relationship.

In addition to The Fosters, NBC is launching the New Normal, a show about a gay couple and the surrogate carrying their baby.

Fingers crossed The Fosters turns out better than J-Lo’s last attempt at portraying a lesbian in the train wreck that was the film Gigli with Ben Affleck.
