The creators of OutMilitary.com, the gay military network, have now launched the first military focused location-based phone hook-up app. Think Grindr for men in uniform.

U.S. Navy veteran and official spokesperson for OutMilitary.com Shaun Knittel said there was a niche that needed to be filled for service members seeking same sex dating and hook ups.

"We began to notice that members were finding love on OutMilitary.com because the website’s primary function is to serve as a resource for gay and lesbian service members, but we saw a need for a same-sex dating or hookup site based around the military” He explained.

Creator John McKinnon says that the apps will help to alleviate the difficulty gay service members have finding other gay men on base or aboard a ship.

"The app gives them a powerful tool to find and connect with one another right on their smartphone, they can literally 'see' other gay service members on their base, ship, wherever."

Launched in December, 2010, OutMilitary.com quickly became the go-to place for the estimated 65,000 active-duty gay servicemen and women and 1 million LGBT veterans.
