By Lara Hill With Draculas Cabaret Circus’s latest production Transfusion now in full swing QNews thought it was time to learn a little more about those involved in the show. Transfusion is now showing at Dracula’s Gold Coast And don’t forget Dracula's are presenting a special once only ALL GAY performance event co-sponsored by QNews. This event commences 5pm Sunday July 29th.
Transfusion is a hypnotic dose of 21st century pop-acid vaudeville and Drax’s has decided to go for sexy corseted burlesque attire, rather than their usual punk zombie looks.
But it’s the stars of the show that really make Transfusion a hit, and with back stories like these guys you can see why.
Leather clad host Richard Macionis is no stranger to the stage. In 2006, he did a two month guest spot on the Gold Coast and has stayed ever since, performing in Fangs N Fetish, Beasts of Burlesque, Vampirates, Blackblood, RedRum and now Transfusion.
Rudi Testa, the man playing Vlad, was raised under the Catholic Church during the seventies and eighties. He has since spent the last 10 years working in Melbourne’s underbelly of entertainment. He is now a fully fledged Vampire at Dracula’s and has been for the past 6 years.
Megan Barry-Cotter or Zombina has just returned to Draculas after a success aerial Ring act at Palazzo Frankfurt in Germany in 2010 and the Tui Mein Schiff 1 in 2011 as an aerial artist.
Charne Louise has quite a reputation, as anyone with the stage name “Va Va Voom” would. She grew up obsessed with red lipstick. This bombshell lover of the 50's was crowned Miss Va-Va Voom Australia, by the Miss Pinup Australia competition, 2011. Not only is Charne part of the Drax cast and band, she is also the Musical Director.
David Kume (Kamikaze D) joined the Dracula’s cast in 09 and is an audience favourite. He is particularly remembered for shredding his nightly lead guitar solos, suspended high above the thrilled spectators, while performing his unique aerial acrobatics.
Transfusion is Riely Saville’s first show with Dracula’s, but she is no stranger to the spotlight. Riely trained with The Australian Ballet School and to this date her most exciting national experience was performing with international superstar, Kanye West at Splendor in the Grass 2011. And then again for his 2012 Big Day Out tour.
But it’s the show’s Director Haydie Newman sums up the show pretty nicely.
“This show is a slap in the face for everyone who’s complaining about how quiet things have been! When the curtain falls, the audience will be on their feet and screaming for more.”
