By Toby Longhurst Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been very vocal in their support for same-sex rights and marriage over a long period of time, but it appears that these are not views shared by their parents. Mother Pitt hit the headlines when she wrote in to a Missouri newspaper slamming President Obama and praising Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his "Christian conviction concerning homosexuality." "Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama, a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage," Mrs Pitt wrote. There was a quick media backlash against the Pitt matriarch and reports suggested that Brad and Angelina were less than impressed by the outburst. There was, however, one staunch ally coming to Mrs Pitt's defence, and that was Angelina's Academy Award winning father Jon Voight. "Good for her," he told Fox News, sticking up for Pitt's right to speak her mind and noting that he agreed with her. Brad's lesser known brother also joined the debate on the Today Show: "I think moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world," he astutely noted. "So why would our family be any different? there can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you. The bad thing is when it turns to venom and negativity, and we don't have that in our family." Brad Pitt declined to make any comment when contacted by a number of major news services.
